Darby Lloyd Rains hailed from a middle-class theatrical family -- her song and dance man father appeared regularly in Broadway musical stage productions -- and started her career in show business as a nightclub singer. Darby made the leap into explicit hardcore movies in the early 1970's as a means of earning extra money in order to support her singing career. A very fetching and accomplished actress in 1970's East Coast adult fare, Rains acted in X-rated features for such notable directors as Gerard Damiano, Radley Metzger, Roberta Findlay, Mac Ahlberg, John Amero, Joseph W. Sarno, Jerry Douglas, Kemal Horulu, and Lem Amero. Outside of ***, Darby also worked as a professional dominatrix. Rains retired from the adult film industry in the late 1970's and moved to the West Coast where she started her own green cleaning company.
